🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Cape Town: “City Bowl”, Bo-Kaap and Company’s Garden

  • 🚶 Start with a walk through Cape Town’s historic center (City Bowl) — narrow streets, Art Deco and Victorian facades, cafés and street markets. Next — the colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood with the spicy aroma of spices and houses in every shade of the rainbow. Be sure to stop by the Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum (71 Wale St): a small house museum that tells the story of the Cape Malay community. Then head to Company’s Garden: the shade of camphor trees, squirrels, roses, and the ensemble of Iziko museums around it — an ideal “soft landing” after a flight.

Day 2 — Cape Town: Table Mountain and the Atlantic

  • 🚡 In the morning — up Table Mountain by cable car (lower station on Tafelberg Rd): the cabin rotates 360°, revealing views of the city, the Ocean, and the Twelve Apostles. At the top — winding loops across the plateau to the cliff edge where Cape swifts soar. After descending — to the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton: snow-white sand, granite boulders, and an icy Atlantic breeze. Catch sunset on Signal Hill or along the Sea Point Promenade — with a cup of rooibos latte and a view of scarlet sails in the bay.

Day 3 — Cape Town: V&A Waterfront, Two Oceans Aquarium, Zeitz MOCAA and Robben Island

  • 🚶 Morning at the V&A Waterfront: the creak of masts, street musicians, and the aromas of Cape Malay cuisine. Drop into the Two Oceans Aquarium (Dock Rd) — a living kelp forest and sharks in the “Open Ocean”. Nearby — Zeitz MOCAA in repurposed grain silos: Heatherwick’s powerful architecture and contemporary African art. In the afternoon — the classic trip to Robben Island: the ferry from the Nelson Mandela Gateway by the Clock Tower, and a tour of the prison with former inmates — a powerful, deeply personal experience about the cost of freedom.

Day 4 — Cape Peninsula: Chapman’s Peak, the Cape of Good Hope and penguins

  • 🚗 Take the scenic road along the Atlantic to Hout Bay, then drive Chapman’s Peak Drive — one of the most beautiful coastal routes in the world. In the “Table Mountain: Cape of Good Hope” National Park — cliffs, the roar of wind, and ostriches coming toward you. Next — Boulders Beach near Simonstown: wooden boardwalks among boulders where a land-based colony of African penguins lives in the warm waters of False Bay. Finale — a seafood dinner in Kalk Bay and golden hour over False Bay.

Day 5 — Kirstenbosch and Constantia

  • 🌿 Royal Kirstenbosch is a botanical garden on the eastern slope of Table Mountain: giant proteas, silvery leucospermums, and the Boomslang treetop walkway. After that — the Constantia wine estates: white Cape Dutch gables, tastings of sauvignons and semillons with herbal and citrus notes. In the evening, return to the center — dinner on Jardine/Kloof Street with modern South African cuisine.

Day 6 — Stellenbosch and Franschhoek: art and auto icons

  • 🚗 The wine valley: first Stellenbosch — oak-lined avenues and galleries. At the Rupert Museum on Stellentia Rd — a strong collection of 20th-century South African modernism in a light pavilion by the river. Then Franschhoek: retro charm, the wine tram, and the Franschhoek Motor Museum on the L’Ormarins estate — halls with gleaming bodies from early Bugattis to iconic Ferraris. Return to Cape Town or overnight at a winery — at your pace.

Day 7 — Hermanus: the “whale capital” and cliff trails

  • 🚗 Southeast via Sir Lowry’s Pass or the scenic coastal R44: fuchsia and turquoise shallows of False Bay give way to cliffs and white surf. Hermanus is a town where you can spot whales from the cliff edge (June to November is peak season), and year-round there are walks along the Hermanus Cliff Path, sea caves, and the crisp air of the Indian Ocean. In the evening — oysters and chardonnay on the waterfront.

Day 8 — Transfer to safari: Gondwana, Western Cape

  • 🚗 Transfer: Hermanus → Gondwana Private Game Reserve (via the N2 to Mossel Bay). On the way — a смена biomes up to the unique fynbos. Check in to the lodge, a daytime rest, and your first sunset drive: alert oryx against an orange sky, rhinos, giraffes, and lions in the shifting light of a fynbos sunset.

  • ⏱ Estimated travel time: Hermanus → the Mossel Bay area ≈ 4–5 hours (depending on stops and traffic).

Day 9 — Gondwana: morning and evening drives

  • 🦁 A classic safari ritual: a dawn drive with a blanket and hot rooibos tea; the tracker reads fresh prints and explains the behavior of packs and lone animals. In the daytime — a leisurely lunch with a view of the hills, watching hornbills and dassies. In the evening — a second ranger drive to another part of the reserve to increase your chances of seeing the Big Five.

Day 10 — Knysna and Plettenberg Bay: lagoon and headlands

  • 🚗 A short drive to Knysna: a mirror-like lagoon, yachts, and the famous Knysna Heads — rocky “gates” to the ocean. A walk along the waterfront and onward to Plettenberg Bay: long arcs of beaches, seagulls, and white villas on the dunes. Optional — a boat trip to spawning bays and headlands with seabird colonies.

Day 11 — Tsitsikamma: suspension bridge and the Indian Ocean’s rock ’n’ breaker

  • 🌊 “Garden Route: Tsitsikamma, Storms River Mouth” National Park: a trail to suspension bridges over a churning river mouth, spray with a salty tang and brooding porphyry cliffs. For the prepared — short trails through coastal forest with milkwood trees and yellowwoods; for everyone — sit at the edge of the slab and watch the wave grind down basalt steps.

Day 12 — Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth): Bayworld and Humewood Beach

  • 🚗 Drive east to Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth). A stroll along the promenade and a visit to the Bayworld museum complex (Port Elizabeth Museum, Oceanarium and Snake Park) on Marine/Beach Road — dinosaurs, marine themes and port history. In the evening — the Summerstrand waterfront and the soft glow of the lighthouse over the bay.

Day 13 — Addo: “elephant country” and a flight to Cape Town

  • 🐘 Early departure to Addo Elephant National Park: watching herds at waterholes, warthogs, zebras and rare crombec birds; for convenience — enter via the Main Camp gate (R335) or the southern Matyholweni gate depending on your accommodation. During the day — return to Gqeberha, evening flight back to Cape Town.

  • ✈️ Flight: Gqeberha (PLZ) → Cape Town (CPT) — about 1 h 10–20 min of pure flight time; allow another 1.5–2 h for airport procedures.

Day 14 — Cape Town: final touch

  • 🚶 Morning craft market at the Watershed (V&A) or a walk along the Sea Point Promenade; optional — the Slave Lodge and a stroll along Adderley/Wale. Lunch with a view of the bay and transfer to the airport. South Africa says goodbye with a salty wind, golden light, and memories of lions against the fynbos.
