🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Arrival in Tengchong (TCZ) → Heshun: getting acquainted and acclimatization

  • 🏁 Flight to Tengchong (Tuofeng, TCZ), transfer 25–35 minutes to the accommodation area (Heshun/town). Check-in, a light lunch with local cuisine (ersī, rice noodles) and a “lazy” stroll along the stone lanes of the ancient town of Heshun by ponds and little bridges.

  • 🧘 In the evening — a warm foot bath/spa at the hotel, early sleep. On the first day we avoid long soaks in hot water and climbs — letting the body adjust to the altitude of ~1600 m.

Day 2 — Rehai (热海): geothermal valley + bathing

  • 💨 Morning — Rehai (Hot Sea): fumaroles, the “Big Boiling Cauldron,” geyser fields and steaming terraces. We walk the main boardwalks unhurriedly, 2–3 km at a “conversational pace,” with photo stops at viewpoints.

  • ♨️ After sightseeing — thermal baths: outdoor pools with mineral water (choose: “Bathing/浴谷温泉” by the upper gate or the complex at the resort hotel). Breaks between soaks 10–15 minutes; don’t go into the water on an empty stomach.

  • 🍵 Evening — Leixiang tea on a terrace/in Heshun: warmth, quiet, gentle relaxation. Hydration and an early night are the key to deeply restorative sleep.

Day 3 — Volcanic Geopark: an easy trail along the crater rim

  • 🌋 National Geopark “Volcanoes and Geothermy” (Machang area): get there by shuttle/taxi, climb Dakongshan/Xiaokongshan via a built trail. 60–90 minutes of walking with photo stops; along the crater perimeter — views of lava plateaus and cinder-cone knobs.

  • 🥗 Daytime — lunch and an unhurried return to town. After-lunch rest at the hotel/short siesta; evening — a warm mineral bath for 15–20 minutes.

Day 4 — Heshun: library, mansions, and a slow culture day

  • 🏛️ Heshun (Ancient Town): atmospheric lanes, stone bridges, waterside laundry pavilions. Visit the famous rural Heshun Library and the house-museum of the thinker Ai Siqi. Photos at the Double Bridge and by the ponds.
  • 🍜 Lunch — Tengchong ersī, “dajiu jia” (fried rice cake). Afterward — an hour or two of “doing nothing”: tea, reading, an unhurried walk along the rice terraces beyond the town gate.

Day 5 — Beihai Northern Wetlands: floating mats and flocks of birds

  • 🛶 Morning — trip to the Beihai reserve (an alpine volcanic marsh). Boardwalk paths; if you like — a ride on a grass boat over the “floating carpet.” The effort is gentle; the air is humid and cool.

  • ♨️ Evening — a repeat soak in the thermal baths (short sessions), dinner with local fish/vegetables. Sleep no later than 22:30.

Day 6 — Deshuihe Waterfall + Rear-Area War Memorial in Western Yunnan

  • 🌈 Daytime — the city’s volcanic Deshuihe Waterfall: a 40–46 m drop over basalt columns, often with a rainbow in the spray. Walking on trails without steep climbs.

  • 🕯️ Nearby — the Rear-Area War Memorial in Western Yunnan and the National Memorial “Guo shan muyuan” (heroes’ cemetery). A quiet hour in the museum and along the memorial avenues; then an early dinner and a warm foot bath.

Day 7 — Final onsen ritual and departure

  • 💧 Morning — a short dip in your favorite thermal pool (10–15 minutes × 2 with a break), tea on the veranda.

  • 🧳 Pack unhurriedly, transfer to Tuofeng Airport. If the flight is late — a final walk around Heshun, souvenirs (tea, jade pieces from reputable shops).
