🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Arrival in the Araucanía region → transfer to Pucón → settling in by the lake

  • 🏁 The most practical arrival scenario is via Araucanía Airport (Temuco area), then a transfer or bus to Pucón. Plan for about 1 hr 45 min–2 hr 30 min by car/transfer and around 2 hours by bus, not including waiting time. After check-in, don’t overload the day: Pucón reveals itself best not in a rush, but through a gentle entry into its lake-and-volcano rhythm.

  • 🌊 In the evening — a calm walk along the La Poza waterfront and by Playa Grande. The air here smells of water, damp wood, and southern forest, while the snowy summit of Villarrica sets the whole visual tone of the resort. A leisurely 40–60 minute promenade is more than enough to shake off travel fatigue and prepare your body for the thermal days ahead.

Day 2 — Urban wellness day: central Pucón + beach + light recovery

  • ☕ Today there are no long outings. Dedicate the morning to a calm breakfast and a walk through the central streets of Pucón — Gerónimo de Alderete, O'Higgins, Fresia. The town is small and comfortable for exploring on foot: cafés, craft shops, volcano views, and the nearby lake create the feeling of a resort where there’s no need to hurry anywhere.

  • 🧘 During the day, arrange a “minimum wellness” plan: a walk to Playa Grande, a pause by the shore, a light lunch, and an early rest at the hotel. On a trip like this, what matters is not packing in as much as possible, but alternating impressions with recovery. If your hotel has a hot tub, sauna, or relaxation area, this is the perfect evening for gentle warming without long transfers.

Day 3 — Termas Huife: a classic thermal day in the river valley

  • ♨️ The first full thermal trip is to Termas Huife, about 30 km from Pucón. The drive usually takes around 45–60 minutes each way. It’s a good place to start: the logistics are easier than for more remote springs, and the format combines natural quiet, open-air pools, and a spa-like rhythm.

  • 🌿 The point of the day is not to “bathe everywhere,” but to follow the thermal cycle properly: 15–20 minutes in the water, then a break, warm tea, a short walk, and back to the pool. Among green slopes, damp forest, and the murmur of the river, the hot water feels especially deep: the body relaxes, breathing evens out, and your mind quite literally switches into the slow southern mode.

  • ✅ Return to Pucón before evening and leave the rest of the day empty. After the hot springs, it’s better not to plan active trekking, alcohol, or heavy food — the effect of the springs is felt much more strongly if you let your body recover calmly.

Day 4 — Ojos del Caburgua + Lake Caburgua: water, forest, and visual therapy

  • 💧 Today is a nature day without excessive strain. In the morning, head to Ojos del Caburgua: the drive from Pucón usually takes about 35–45 minutes. These are not hot springs, but one of the most photogenic water spots in the region — a chain of bright turquoise cascades and springs where underground water seems to burst forth among dark volcanic rock and dense greenery.

  • 🌲 After visiting Ojos del Caburgua, it makes sense to continue the day at Lago Caburgua. Here it’s best to choose a calm plan: viewpoints, a short walk along the shore, lunch with a view of the water, and unhurried rest. The contrast between the calm lake surface, forested slopes, and distant volcanic relief works almost like a natural meditation.

Day 5 — Termas Menetúe: a day of deep relaxation and warm water

  • 🛁 Dedicate the second thermal day to Menetúe, located on the international road toward Curarrehue. From central Pucón, people usually allow around 45–55 minutes each way. Menetúe is well suited to a wellness-focused itinerary: it’s easier here to spend half a day in water and silence without turning your отдых into an “excursion marathon.”

  • 🌺 The thermal complex feels like a southern garden of recovery: steam above the pools, humid air, trees, soft landscaping, and a rhythm in which the water sets the pace for the whole day. If the previous day was an active visual day around Caburgua, here it’s better to focus specifically on relaxation, pauses, and unhurried time on site.

  • 🧴 The day’s formula: drive → 2–3 thermal sessions → lunch → short rest → return to Pucón. Don’t try to combine Menetúe with long mountain walks as well: it’s exactly the lightness of the schedule that makes this day feel like a health-resort experience rather than just a tourist outing.

Day 6 — Huerquehue National Park or a gentle walking sector by the araucaria forest

  • 🌲 Today calls for a forest day. Parque Nacional Huerquehue is about 35–45 minutes from Pucón, depending on road conditions and the entrance point. It is one of the most expressive parks in the region: ancient araucarias, humid southern forest, clear lakes, and air that feels almost like a separate wellness treatment in itself.

  • 🥾 For a wellness itinerary, there’s no need to take the hardest trail. It’s better to choose a short or moderate section, walk it at a “conversation pace,” pause at panoramic points, and not make distance the goal. Here the main effect is not athletic but sensory: resin, moss, cold streams, light through branches, and the rare feeling of natural silence.

  • 🫁 If you feel tired after two thermal days, shorten the walk and return to Pucón earlier. It’s better to save energy for a beautiful tour finale than to overload your legs on the penultimate day.

Day 7 — A cultural touch: Pucón museum theme + final walk by Villarrica

  • 🏛️ Make the last day calm and collected. Start with one of the city’s local cultural spots: Museo Mapuche or Museo de la Pesca Deportiva y Recreativa, if the visiting schedule fits. It’s a good way to add not only nature and hot springs to the tour, but also a layer of local identity — the history of the Mapuche people, the lake district, and traditions connected with water.

  • 🌅 Then leave time for a farewell walk along the shore of Lago Villarrica. Pucón is remembered especially beautifully in moments like these: calm water, changing light, the profile of the volcano, and the feeling that the trip was not about ticking boxes but about inner rebalancing. Packing and departure — without rush, with extra time for the road back toward Temuco.
