🧭 ITINERARY BY DAYS

Day 1 — Ostrava: the center, Masarykovo náměstí, and a panorama from the Town Hall

  • 🚶 Start with the historic core — Masarykovo náměstí: a bright square with town-hall façades and cozy cafés. Walk to the New Town Hall (Nová radnice) and go up to the viewing tower (Prokešovo nám. 8): in 10–15 minutes the elevator will take you to a terrace with a 360° panorama — the industrial furnaces of Vítkovice, the winding Ostravice, and the green roofs of the center. After that, take a leisurely loop along the river embankment, pause for coffee, and spend the evening on Stodolní: a loud, contrasting street where Ostrava shows its “nighttime” side.

Day 2 — Dolní Vítkovice: Blast furnaces, the Bolt Tower, and the “city of steel”

  • 🚶 Dive into the city’s main symbol — the national industrial heritage site Dolní oblast Vítkovice. Start at the info center in Gong (Ruská 2993) and take a tour of the BLAST-FURNACE CIRCUIT with an ascent to the Bolt Tower: the glass addition atop the furnace is like a frozen tongue of flame. At the top there’s an open terrace and a café with expansive views over the entire agglomeration. Set aside 2–3 hours for the tour and photos: the intricate tangle of catwalks, pipes, and stairs is a rare chance to walk through the “anatomy” of metallurgy.

Day 3 — Vítkovice: The Great and Small Worlds of Technology

  • 🚶 Visit two science museums in the DOV area: “Velký svět techniky” (Vítkovice 3004) — a bright cube with interactive halls about people, nature, and technology; “Malý svět techniky U6” (Ruská 2994/18) — an atmospheric “machine book” under historic trusses, where steam engines and machines come alive through interactive exhibits. Between them is a short walk through workshops and courtyards, and at the end — a break in the area’s cafés. The day is perfect for travelers with children and for those who like to touch history with their own hands.

Day 4 — Trojhalí Karolina and the Ostravice embankments

  • 🚶 Trojhalí Karolina (K Trojhalí 3361/5) is two former power halls converted into an indoor square and sports space. From here it’s easy to reach the boulevards along the river: wooden boardwalks, lawns, and views of the junction of the “old center” and the industrial valley. By day — sports and unhurried photos; by evening — a bridge to the dining area around Forum Nová Karolina and back to the center.

Day 5 — Silesian Ostrava: the castle and mini-worlds

  • 🚶 Climb up to Slezskoostravský hrad (Hradní 1): a restored fortress above the confluence of the Ostravice and Lučina. Fairs and concerts often take place in the courtyard, and the towers hold intimate exhibitions. Then stop by Černá louka to see MINIUNI — an open-air world of miniatures: the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and ancient “wonders” in scale — a great contrast to the “big” Vítkovice.

Day 6 — Landek Park: descending into a mine and the “breath” of coal

  • 🚶 At the Hornické muzeum Landek Park (Pod Landekem 64) you literally go underground: drifts, cages, compressors, lamps — and stories from former miners. Above is a nature park with trails and the Odra River. Set aside 3–4 hours: the museum is dense, and a walk along the ridge of the hill to viewpoints helps you “digest” the underground experience.

Day 7 — ZOO Ostrava and the “botanical park”

  • 🚶 Ostrava can surprise you with its greenery: ZOO Ostrava (Michálkovická 197) is not only enclosures, but also 3 botanical trails up to 6 km long, lakes, and lookout clearings. Plan for half a day: lazy bears, active lemurs, and rare Asian ungulates share space with a large arboretum.

Day 8 — The House of Art Gallery and theatrical Ostrava

  • 🚶 The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (Dům umění, Jurečkova 9) is a strict neoclassical building with a strong exhibition program: from Czech modernism to contemporary art. Add nearby theaters (for example, the Antonín Dvořák Theatre) or intimate stages; the evening is for dinner in the center and a walk across illuminated squares.

Day 9 — The Planetarium and the city’s “green crown”

  • 🚶 Planetárium Ostrava (K Planetáriu 502, Krásné Pole): dome films, an observatory, and interactive zones about space and Earth. Afterward, take a walk in the forest parks in the north of the city or return to the river. This is a “soft” day with light science and big trees.

Day 10 — Poruba: socialist realism and boulevards

  • 🚶 The Poruba district is a unique ensemble of “falcon” neoclassicism from the 1950s. Walk along Hlavní třída to the famous “Oblouk” complex: powerful colonnades, arcades, sculptures, and broad vistas. This is a completely different layer of Ostrava — monumental and intimate at the same time.

Day 11 — Vítkovice: science, quests, and a return to the heights

  • 🚶 Return to DOV for a “second reading”: catch up on exhibits you didn’t make in Days 2–3, stop by the Gong Gallery, and go up the Bolt Tower again at sunset — the industrial silhouette is especially expressive in orange light. In between, enjoy the area’s cafés and photo “hunts” for rust, glass, and sky.

Day 12 — Rhythm Reset: Komenského Sady and the City by the Water

  • 🚶 Komenského sady is the city’s central park—its “lungs.” The route is easy: flat lawns, long shady alleys, scenic exits to the river, and the Liberation Monument. Bring a blanket, a snack, and an e-reader: a restful day without checklists, where Ostrava is taken in “by ear” and “by scent.”

Day 13 — Optional Tech Heritage: Důl Michal and City Courtyards

  • 🚶 If it’s open to visitors, stop by the Důl Michal museum complex (Československé armády 95, Michálkovice): a fully preserved mine with changing rooms, showers, and engine halls. With the remaining time—unhurried city courtyards in the center, local coffee shops, and bookshops.

Day 14 — Finale: Your “Best Loop” Around Ostrava

  • 🚶 Gather your favorite spots: a quick ride up the New City Hall tower or Bolt Tower, a walk along the embankment, and dinner downtown. A final look at the lights of DOV and the gentle streets around Masarykovo náměstí—so you leave with the feeling of a city that honestly shows its roots and boldly invents the future.
