🚲 ROUTE BY DAY

Day 1 — Wismar → Rerik → Kühlungsborn: starting along the Baltic

  • 🚲 Start from Wismar and ease into the tour on the Ostseeküsten-Radweg / EuroVelo 10 along the coast. About 42 km, pure riding time around 3 hours, with little elevation gain — roughly 150–220 m due to the rolling coastal terrain and short climbs near the bluffs. The surface is mixed but tourist-friendly and safe: paved bike paths, stretches of quiet local roads, promenades, and some compact gravel sections. Main stops along the way: Poel Island as an optional morning detour for lovers of the sea and lighthouses, Rerik’s harbor area, and viewpoints by Salzhaff. For water and food, the most convenient breaks are in Wismar before departure, then in Rerik, and finally in the resort town of Kühlungsborn, where there are plenty of cafés, bakeries, and shops. The best overnight stop is Kühlungsborn: it is a logical cycling base with a long promenade, services, and rentals. Route nuances: with a side or headwind from the sea, your pace drops noticeably; after rain, short unpaved stretches may be slower; in high season, you need to reduce speed on promenade sections because of pedestrians. The day is realistic for a regular cycle tourist because the distance is moderate, there is very little climbing, and there are regular rest and food stops along the way.

Day 2 — Kühlungsborn → Heiligendamm → Nienhagen → Warnemünde

  • 🚲 One of the most beautiful resort days on the route. From Kühlungsborn, you leave through the snow-white Heiligendamm, then continue through coastal forests to the famous Gespensterwald in Nienhagen, after which the route goes on to Warnemünde. About 55 km, pure riding time around 4 hours, elevation gain about 180–260 m. The surface is mostly comfortable: bike paths, seaside asphalt stretches, quiet roads between villages, and in places compact forest gravel. Main stops: Heiligendamm with its resort architecture, Gespensterwald Nienhagen for a short walk with views over the bluff, and the beaches at Stoltera near Warnemünde. Water and food are easy to restock in Kühlungsborn, Bad Doberan/Heiligendamm, Nienhagen, and then in Warnemünde. The best overnight stop is Warnemünde or the northern part of Rostock near the route. Route nuances: in summer there can be a lot of promenade traffic on the approach to popular seaside resorts; on shared paths it is important to ride calmly and use your bell in advance; in windy weather the open stretches between resorts feel harder than the mileage suggests. The day is realistic: longer than the first, but still following a major tourist cycling corridor with frequent services and no dangerous highways.

Day 3 — Warnemünde → Hohe Düne ferry → Graal-Müritz → Wustrow → Prerow

  • 🚲 The key day of the eastern section through the Baltic resorts. From Warnemünde, it is better to cross the Neuer Strom safely by the Warnemünde–Hohe Düne ferry rather than trying to find an awkward detour through city traffic. After the short crossing, the route goes through Markgrafenheide, the forests of Rostocker Heide, the resort of Graal-Müritz, then across the Fischland peninsula through Ahrenshoop and Wustrow to Prerow. About 63 km, pure riding time around 4 hours 30 minutes, elevation gain 180–250 m. The surface is varied but typically cycle-tour-friendly: asphalt, dedicated bike paths, promenades, packed forest tracks, and short sections of compact gravel. Main stops: Graal-Müritz for coffee and water, Ahrenshoop as an artistic seaside resort, and viewpoints along Fischland. Food and water are easy to get in Warnemünde before departure, then in Graal-Müritz, Dierhagen, Wustrow, Ahrenshoop, and Born/Prerow. Staying overnight in Prerow makes sense: from here it is convenient to ride out to the national park the next day. Route nuances: the ferry is a fast and convenient link, but in summer it is better to allow for a short wait; on dikes and open stretches of the peninsula, the wind is often the main difficulty factor; in high season it is best to move slowly through central Ahrenshoop and on the promenades. The day is realistic for a regular cycle tourist because the terrain is almost flat, and the distance is offset by good surfaces and frequent resort stops.

Day 4 — Radial day from Prerow: Natureum Darßer Ort and the Darß forest

  • 🚲 A recovery day without changing overnight accommodation, but with one of the most atmospheric nature rides of the whole tour. From Prerow, the cycling route goes through Darßwald to the Darßer Ort area and on to the Natureum. It is best done as a radial outing so you do not have to carry luggage and can calmly walk the viewing trails and shoreline. About 36 km total, pure riding time around 2 hours 35 minutes, with only symbolic elevation gain — about 70–120 m. Surface: forest bike paths, firm dirt, wooden boardwalks/access tracks in the natural areas, and a little asphalt in Prerow itself. Main stops: Darßer Wald, Natureum Darßer Ort, and the beach-and-dune views at the northern tip. It is best to take water and food with you from Prerow in advance, because services in the nature area are limited and depend on the season; a proper lunch is easier to plan back in Prerow. Overnight again in Prerow. Route nuances: this is a protected area of Nationalpark Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft, so it is important not to leave the permitted paths and to respect visitor management instructions; in wet weather the forest sections may be slower; mosquitoes and wind by the water are possible in the evening; in hot weather the forest shade helps, but you still need to carry extra water. The day is realistic because the distance is short, your luggage stays at the hotel, and the ride gives your legs a proper rest after the long third day.

Day 5 — Prerow → Zingst → Pramort / Zingster Seebrücke: finale among lagoons and dunes

  • 🚲 The final day works well as a short transfer to Zingst with a beautiful continuation across the peninsula at an unhurried pace. From Prerow, the road leads through forest and resort sections to Zingst; after check-in, you can ride on lightly toward the eastern natural landscapes and Bodden viewpoints. About 34 km total, pure riding time around 2 hours 25 minutes, elevation gain about 60–100 m. The surface is easy: bike paths, resort streets with calmed traffic, sections of firm dirt, and promenades. Main stops: Seebrücke Zingst, the natural panoramas of the Boddenlandschaft, and, if energy and weather allow, the direction of Pramort as a big final highlight of birds, water, and open sky. Water and food are easy to restock both in Prerow and in Zingst; for a longer nature outing, it is better to take a snack with you. Overnight — Zingst. Route nuances: on the natural stretches there is no point chasing speed; it is more important to leave time for stops and landscape watching; in strong wind, the eastern extension can be shortened; in high season there are many pedestrians near the pier and in central Zingst. The day is realistic for an ordinary traveler because it is a short and relaxed ending to the route, with the option to adapt the mileage easily to your energy and the weather.
