🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Milan: a gentle winter start

  • Arrival in Milan and an easy acclimatization. Stroll around the Duomo square and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, have hot chocolate or a brioche with cappuccino at the old exchange rate. In the evening—an early dinner and packing: tomorrow you’ll have a beautiful rail climb into the Alps.

Day 2 — Transfer to the Alps: Milan → Tirano

  • The Trenord train from Milano Centrale to Tirano takes about 2 h 30–2 h 50 min: the carriage carries you away from the city bustle along Lecco and Como, then ever higher into the Valtellina Valley. On arrival—a compact town with stone houses, cozy restaurants, and mountain views. Spending the night in Tirano makes tomorrow’s transfer to Livigno easier.

Day 3 — Tirano → Livigno: entering the high-altitude “bowl”

  • By bus via Bormio (Perego/Silvestri lines) we climb the switchbacks to the Foscagno Pass and enter the wide snowy Livigno valley (≈ 2–3 h including the connection). Check-in, a short walk along Via Plan: duty-free shop windows, the smell of wood stoves, crisp air at 1,816 m a.s.l. In the evening—get to know the village’s free skibus routes (MyLivignoPass).

Day 4 — Livigno: Carosello 3000 — scenic line and “warm-up” runs

  • Start on the west side of the valley: the Carosello 3000 gondola gently brings you to panoramas up to 2,800 m. In the morning—easy blue/red runs to dial in boots and technique; lunch—in a mountain hut overlooking the white bowl of the valley; after—another 2–3 careful runs with no heroics. In the evening—a hot sauna or pool: tomorrow the slope aspect changes.

Day 5 — Livigno: Mottolino Fun Mountain — pace and snowpark

  • The east-facing Mottolino slope is about energy and variety: from comfortable pistes to the legendary Mottolino Snowpark. Even if you’re not a jibber, watching the airtime and the shapers’ work is a pleasure on its own. Tip: in the morning—technique and control, at midday—a break at M’eating Point, in the afternoon—ride your favorite lines.

Day 6 — Livigno: cross-country skiing + the Mus! museum!

  • The Sci Fondo center in the heart of Livigno offers a well-groomed track along the Spöl River and across the valley’s sunny meadows. Choose 5–10 km at an easy pace: the goal is to feel the northern dry snow and how your breathing works at altitude. After lunch—MUS! Museo di Livigno e Trepalle in a historic house: living history of the mountain community, trades, and the harsh winter.

Day 7 — Livigno at an easy pace: Aquagranda and walks

  • A light recovery day. In the morning—a winter walk around the village (Via Plan, San Rocco area), in the afternoon—Aquagranda: saunas, steam rooms, panoramic relaxation zones. In the evening—an unhurried dinner: pasta with Valtellina bresaola and a red wine from Valtellina.

Day 8 — Big ski day: “linking” your favorite lines

  • Head back to Carosello 3000: in the morning—long panoramic reds, after lunch—gentle blues in the lower part of the valley. The task is to rack up quality repetitions and a feel for the snow without exhausting yourself. Toward evening—duty-free shopping and hot chocolate on Via Plan.

Day 9 — Bormio: old town, thermal baths, and museum

  • By A072 bus over Foscagno Pass (≈ 1 h 30–2 h) to Bormio. In the daytime—stone streets and arcaded loggias, a visit to the Museo Civico di Bormio (valley history, everyday life, and art). If you’d like—a warm session at the baths (Bormio Terme/QC Bagni, your choice). In the evening—back to Livigno.

Day 10 — Santa Caterina Valfurva: Stelvio Park visitor center

  • Via Bormio to Santa Caterina Valfurva (local buses/ski shuttle depending on season). Visit the Stelvio National Park Visitor Center: wildlife, glaciers, tundra landscapes, and the fragile high-mountain ecosystem. A short winter trek in the Forni Valley (weather permitting) and back to Livigno before dark.

Day 11 — Livigno: the lake and the Spöl Valley

  • A winter walk to Lago di Livigno and the Punt dal Gall dam (available viewpoints depend on snow clearing and road regulations). Here the scale of the landscape is especially palpable: a smooth icy mirror, sparse pines, dry frosty air. In the evening—tasting local liqueurs (fedarìa) and cheese.

Day 12 — Day trip to Switzerland: Livigno → Zernez → St. Moritz

  • In the morning — bus 815 through the Munt la Schera tunnel to Zernez (≈ 45–60 min), then RhB to St. Moritz (≈ 35–45 min). A couple of hours at the lake, old grand hotels, sunny terraces, and return the same way before dark. The logistics are simple, but build in extra time for schedule and weather.

Day 13 — Livigno: final skiing and a warm evening

  • Pick your favorite slope — Carosello 3000 or Mottolino — and ski just for fun: short sets of 2–3 runs with tea breaks. After lunch — souvenirs and food shopping (cheese, coffee, chocolate); in the evening — a festive dinner and pack our suitcases.

Day 14 — Departure: Livigno → Milan airports / Milan

  • Livigno Express shuttle directly to the airports (Malpensa / Linate / Bergamo) or by bus to Tirano and then by train to Milan. On snowy days, allow extra time: high-altitude roads and possible delays are a reality in the Alps.
