🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ROUTE

Day 1 — V&A Waterfront: the “gateway to the city” by the water

  • 🚶 Start your trip at the V&A Waterfront—these are quarters of piers, commercial docks, and pedestrian promenades with views of the harbor, Table Mountain, and the Cape Wheel. Walk from the Clock Tower and the Nelson Mandela Gateway to the main mall, pop into the Watershed (design market), the seal pier, and the Granger Bay promenade to the Oranjezicht farmers’ market (on weekends). It’s a “soft” start where Cape Town fits into a single frame: ocean, mountains, office-glass, and marina bustle.

Day 2 — V&A: art and ocean

  • 🎨 In the morning—Zeitz MOCAA in the Silo District: an industrial grain silo reimagined as a museum of contemporary African art with “honeycomb” shafts and viewing windows over the city. ⚓ Then—Two Oceans Aquarium: a kelp forest, tropical reefs, and local residents of the cold Benguela Current. Take breaks by the water: short walks and plenty of cafés right on the piers.

Day 3 — Table Mountain: cableway and plateau

  • ⛰️ Catch a morning “window” without wind and cloud cover (the “tablecloth”) and ride the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway: the rotating cabin gives 360° panoramas in 5 minutes. Up top are loop trails across the plateau, views of the bay and Table Bay, and short walks to Maclear’s Beacon. On the way down—coffee at the lower station and photos with the sheer Twelve Apostles walls behind you. Budget 2.5–4 hours total for travel and queues.

Day 4 — Table Mountain on foot: Platteklip Gorge

  • 🥾 A classic ascent via the Platteklip Gorge trail (≈2–3 h up, 700+ m elevation gain). Start early; bring water/a windbreaker/a cap. Descend by cable car (if running) or back on foot; in heat and strong wind it’s better to shorten the route and go down by cabin. Afterward—late lunch in Gardens/Kloof Nek, rest in the shade of the trees in Company’s Garden.

Day 5 — Bo-Kaap and the center: layers of the city

  • 🌈 In the morning—Bo-Kaap: bright facades, cobbled streets, mosques, and spices. Drop by the Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum to understand the neighborhood’s roots. Then—walk through the City Bowl: Greenmarket Square, St. George’s Mall, and the arcades of old buildings. By evening, return to the V&A for sunset by the water.

Day 6 — History and memory: District Six and the South African Museum

  • 🕯️ Start with the District Six Museum—an honest, piercing account of forced removals during apartheid. Then—Iziko South African Museum in Company’s Garden: from fossils to ethnography; next door is the National Gallery. A day “about meaning”—keep the evening calm.

Day 7 — Green Point and waterfronts

  • 🌿 A walk through Green Point Urban Park and along the shoreline toward the lighthouse museum/stadium: flat paths, views of the Atlantic and Table Mountain in profile. It’s a “breathing” day with lots of greenery and water. For dinner—fish/seafood in Granger Bay.

Day 8 — Robben Island

  • ⛴️ A half-day trip to Nelson Mandela’s prison island: depart from the Nelson Mandela Gateway (V&A). The route includes the ferry (≈30–40 min one way, weather permitting), a bus tour of the island, and a visit to the cells. After returning—a warm evening by the water to “digest” the impressions.

Day 9 — Atlantic Coast: Sea Point → Camps Bay

  • 🏖️ The Sea Point Promenade is ideal for a morning run/ocean bliss. By day—Clifton/Camps Bay beaches (a windbreaker is a must: wind and the cold water of the Benguela Current). For sunset—a viewpoint on Signal Hill or dinner with a view of the Twelve Apostles.

Day 10 — Kirstenbosch: a botanical garden at the mountain’s foot

  • 🌱 Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is the best day for a “reset”: giant proteas, paths under the slopes of Table Mountain, the Boomslang canopy bridge. Bring a blanket and have a picnic on the lawns. Time-wise—3–4 hours at an unhurried pace.

Day 11 — V&A: “small” museums and design

  • 💎 Round out the Waterfront mosaic: the Cape Town Diamond Museum (history of South Africa’s diamonds), a walk through the Silo District with public art and craft markets in the Watershed. A short harbor cruise—so you can see the city from the water.

Day 12 — Wine Valleys or Constantia (daytime), evening by the canal

  • 🍇 Day trip to Constantia (close and intimate) or a light tasting within the city (to be arranged with the transfer/driver). In the evening — return to the Foreshore/canal by the AC Hotel or back to the V&A for a walk with the reflections of lights in the water.

Day 13 — A free day “your way”

  • 🗺️ Return to your favorite views: Table Mountain plateau in different light, a repeat V&A visit at sunrise, a run along the promenades, or shopping local brands at the Watershed. The idea of the day is to glue together “your” pieces of the city without rushing.

Day 14 — Finale: a lap of honor

  • 🌅 A short loop: V&A → viewpoint (Signal Hill/Sea Point Promenade) → dinner by the water. In the finale, Cape Town is best felt as a sensation: mountains close by, salt in the air, and sunset light on the dock facades.
