🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY (14 days)

Day 1 — Arrival in Cologne/Bonn (CGN) and getting to know the Rhine

  • ✈️ From the airport it’s convenient to take the S19 line to Köln Hbf in ~14 minutes, then check in and take a walk along the Rhine embankment. For a gentle start with kids—ice cream by the water and a view of the famous Cologne Cathedral. In the evening—an early dinner and sleep on a “family” schedule.

Day 2 — Cologne Zoo + cable car across the Rhine

  • 🦒 Kölner Zoo is one of Germany’s oldest zoos: spacious enclosures, the “Elephant Park,” the Tropical House, and engaging public feedings. Plan 3–4 hours in loops of 60–90 minutes with mandatory snack and restroom breaks.
  • 🚡 Kölner Seilbahn (the cable car) connects the zoo with Rheinpark: 6–8 minutes over the Rhine—and kids squeal with delight while adults admire the cathedral and bridges. On the right bank: the green Rheinpark with big playgrounds and a mini railway (Kleinbahn) in season.

Day 3 — Chocolate Museum + German Sport & Olympic Museum

  • 🍫 Imhoff Chocolate Museum: from the cocoa bean to a real chocolate fountain. There are tastings, “tropical belt” models, and windows into a mini factory—your child sees how the dream chocolate bar is made.

  • 🏅 Deutsches Sport & Olympia Museum—interactive sports halls, Olympic stories, mini-activity areas. The day’s formula: “watch a lot → do a little → relax by the water in Rheinauhafen.”

Day 4 — Flora Botanical Garden + play area in Rheinpark

  • 🌺 Flora und Botanischer Garten—a green neighbor of the zoo: palms, greenhouses, blooming alleys, and lawns for a picnic. A great “quiet” day after an intense start.

  • 🛝 Rheinpark: a large children’s playground complex, shade from trees, and the Kleinbahn mini train (in season). Ride a lap or two and look for a postcard-perfect angle of the cathedral.

Day 5 — Let’s jump! JUMP House (trampolines) + family pizza

  • 🤸 JUMP House Köln—trampoline arenas, air bags, obstacle courses, and zones for different ages. Perfect when you “need to let off steam.” Tips: non-slip socks, water, and a time limit so kids don’t “burn out.”

Day 6 — Stadtwald: Tierpark Lindenthal (petting deer) + lakes

  • 🦌 Lindenthaler Tierpark is a free park with domestic and wild ungulates: deer and fallow deer come very close—pure delight for little ones and gentle “zoo therapy.” Nearby are ponds, small bridges, and playgrounds—the best stage for a calm “family rhythm.”

Day 7 — Water in any weather: Aqualand Köln (water center)

  • 💦 Slides, a wave pool, kids’ areas, and warm water—great if it’s rainy or windy outside. Come at opening time, bring a light snack and flip-flops. After swimming, plan a quiet evening.

Day 8 — Brühl: Phantasialand (family amusement park)

  • 🎢 A large theme park (Brühl): zones with decor down to the last detail, family rides and shows. Tactics: 1) headline rides in the morning; 2) lunch and calm “peaceful” zones; 3) mop up wishes at the end. Plan the trip: train to Brühl + the branded shuttle bus pass (or a bus) to the park.

Day 9 — A panorama from above + the old town

  • 🏙️ KölnTriangle Panorama—a quick elevator ride up to an observation deck with views of the cathedral, the Rhine, and bridges. Kids love spotting “our hotel” and “our tram”—turn it into a landmark-finding game.

  • ⛪ Old town: a short loop by the cathedral, shop windows with gingerbread and toys, street musicians. Refuel with waffles or rustic-style potatoes—and back to the river.

Day 10 — Bonn: Museum Koenig (living world) + Rheinaue Park

  • 🦋 Museum Koenig Bonn—clear, engaging halls about the animal world: dioramas, insects, a “safari inside the museum.” Presented in a way that works well for preschoolers and younger elementary-school kids. After the museum—rent bikes/scooters and free play in Rheinauenpark.

Day 11 — Bonn: Haus der Geschichte (contemporary history through objects)

  • 📘 Haus der Geschichte — interactive galleries about Germany after 1945: a retro railcar, everyday objects, multimedia. With kids, go in short blocks of 30–40 minutes and alternate with a snack/walk.

Day 12 — Königswinter: Drachenfelsbahn + Schloss Drachenburg

  • 🚞 The Drachenfelsbahn cog railway climbs to the top of Drachenfels: convenient with a stroller and kids. The middle station is the entrance to Drachenburg Castle: turrets, halls, terraces, Rhine panorama — a “real fairytale castle.”

Day 13 — TimeRide Cologne + “Rolf’s petting zoo” farm (Porz-Zündorf)

  • 🕶️ TimeRide — a VR journey into Cologne’s past (a format for older kids; check age restrictions when buying).

  • 🐐 Rolf’s Streichelzoo — farm animals, feeding, calm paths. Nearby is the Groov green area for walks along the water.

Day 14 — Final “easy” day: souvenirs and your favorite place one more time

  • 🧳 A slow morning: pack your suitcases, take a walk to your favorite park/café, share with the kids the “top 3 moments of the trip,” take a photo of the “travel team” with the Rhine in the background. To the airport — S19 or taxi/car-sharing depending on the situation.
