GARDALAND + LAKE GARDA

GARDALAND + LAKE GARDA

Fly into romantic Verona, then trace Lake Garda’s edge from the rollercoaster rush of Gardaland at Peschiera/Castelnuovo to vineyard-fringed Lazise and the tranquil Mincio Valley. Push on to wind-whipped Riva del Garda for alpine views and watersports, before unwinding in Sirmione’s thermal waters and Desenzano’s lively piazzas.

🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY (14 DAYS)

Day 1 — Arrival in Verona (VRN) → Peschiera del Garda: getting to know the resort

  • ✈️ From Verona Airport it’s convenient to take the Verona Airlink bus (line 199) to Verona Porta Nuova train station (≈15–20 min), then a regional train to Peschiera (≈13–20 min). Check in, an easy walk along the Mincio waterfront, a kids’ playground by the water, and an early dinner—a gentle start after the journey.

Day 2 — Gardaland Park: Italy’s main kids’ theme park

  • 🎢 Gardaland Park (Castelnuovo del Garda) is a large theme park with fantasy worlds, adventures, and sea stories. For kids: gentle family rides, mini rides with height limits, shows with the mascot Prezzemolo. The “3-block” tactic: 1) morning—popular coasters and dark rides, 2) daytime—calmer areas/lunch/parade, 3) evening—lighting and getting in wish-list rides. A free shuttle runs from Peschiera station about every 30 minutes on park operating days.

Day 3 — Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium + repeat favorite rides

  • 🐠 SEA LIFE Aquarium (next to the park) has 40+ themed tanks, tunnels, tropical fish, and cownose rays. Interactive zones and tasks for school-age kids. After the aquarium—head back into the park: by midday, lines ease up for some family rides, making it easy to catch what you missed.

Day 4 — LEGOLAND® Water Park (in season) or a day by the water

  • 🧱💦 The LEGO water park inside Gardaland has lazy rivers made of bricks, towers, and water slides; it runs on a seasonal schedule (usually the warm half of the year—check dates and weather). If it’s not in season, an alternative is the beach/play areas in Peschiera and a walk along the city’s fortress bastions.

Day 5 — Valeggio sul Mincio: Parco Giardino Sigurtà + Borghetto

  • 🌷 Parco Giardino Sigurtà is a huge “fairy-tale” garden with lawns, a maze, small animals, ponds, and rental pedal carts/bikes. Perfect for a picnic and a “run-around” day. Then the village of Borghetto sul Mincio with watermills: gelato, photos on little bridges, and a calm evening.

Day 6 — Moving north: Peschiera → Riva del Garda

  • 🚆 Option without a car: train Peschiera → Rovereto (via Verona PN), then Trentino Trasporti bus B332 to Riva (≈45–60 min from Rovereto). A scenic but longer option: Navigazione Laghi high-speed boat from south to north (seasonal). Check in, a promenade by Spiaggia Sabbioni, a playground, and dinner with a view.

Day 7 — Trento: MUSE — a science museum for kids

  • 🧪 MUSE (architect Renzo Piano) is one of Italy’s best science centers: dinosaurs, glaciers, hands-on science, experiments, and themed labs. Logistics: bus to Rovereto → train to Trento (≈15–20 min). Plan 3–4 hours for the exhibits + a break at the museum café.

Day 8 — Malcesine: cable car up Monte Baldo

  • 🚡 The Malcesine–Monte Baldo cable car climbs to viewpoints with a panorama of all of Lake Garda. For kids: a “wow effect” from the rotating cabin on the middle section and snow in the shoulder season. Combine: 2–3 hours in the mountains + free play on Malcesine beach/down below.

Day 9 — Ledro: the Pile-Dwelling Museum and swimming in the lake

  • 🏕️ Museo delle Palafitte del Lago di Ledro is an open-air archaeology park: a reconstruction of a prehistoric stilt village, household items, and activities for kids. Then—warm shallow water in Lake Ledro and meadows for play.

Day 10 — Torbole: Busatte Adventure Park + the Busatte–Tempesta trail

  • 🌲 Busatte Adventure rope park (routes from age 4–5) + a short section of the scenic stairway trail above the lake (good for school-age kids; with toddlers—only the viewpoints). In the evening—a relaxed dinner in Riva.

Day 11 — Moving to the southwest: Riva → Sirmione/Desenzano

  • ⛴️ The most beautiful way is the Navigazione Laghi high-speed boat through the lake towns (seasonal; 2.5–3.5 hours depending on the route). Faster: bus to Rovereto + train to Desenzano/Peschiera. In the evening—the thermal waterfront and a view of the castle.

Day 12 — Sirmione: Scaliger Castle and the Grottoes of Catullus

  • 🏰 A light “expedition” into a medieval fortress with a water harbor inside the walls + an ancient villa on the cape (Grotte di Catullo) with views of turquoise shallows. Between the sights — gelato, Jamaica Beach (shallow and flat slabs; water shoes needed).

Day 13 — Bussolengo: Parco Natura Viva (zoo + safari)

  • 🦒 A large zoo-reserve 30–40 minutes away: a walking section + a “safari” (by car/bus). For kids — watching giraffes, big cats, and the Asia/Amazonia enclosures, themed quests. In the evening — a relaxed dinner in Sirmione/Desenzano.

Day 14 — Lazise: Movieland Park or Caneva water park (in season) + departure

  • 🎬 Movieland is a movie-themed park with stunt shows and family rides; in summer the nearby Caneva water park operates with kids’ areas. Convenient free bus from Peschiera station (timetable-based). Return to Verona/airport.
