🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Cologne: Rheinauhafen + Chocolate Museum

  • 🍫 Cologne Chocolate Museum — a bright start for kids: a mini factory, a warm chocolate fountain, interactive stations, and a view of the Rhine. After the museum, take a walk along the Rheinauhafen waterfront among the “crane houses,” with big steps by the water, scooters/balance bikes, and ice cream. The after-travel formula: 1 big впечатление + free outdoor play.

Day 2 — Cologne: Zoo + cable car across the Rhine

  • 🦒 Cologne Zoo is large and well planned, with an aquarium and a primate house. Plan 3–4 hours with snack breaks. Finish with a flight over the Rhine on the Kölner Seilbahn: a panorama of the Cathedral, bridges, and Rheinpark, where you can have a picnic and let off steam on the playgrounds.

Day 3 — Cologne: Aqualand (family water day)

  • 💦 Aqualand Köln — water slides, warm pools, and kids’ zones. It’s an “easy” day between museums and big parks: lots of water, warm, no complicated logistics. Bring flip-flops/swimwear/swim caps, spare socks, and a light snack.

Day 4 — Transfer to Brühl: check in to a themed hotel

  • 🚆 Logistics: Cologne Hbf → Brühl by train (≈ 13–18 minutes), then a city bus/shuttle to Phantasialand. With small children, it’s easier to check in during the day, walk around the hotel garden, and go to bed early.

  • 🏨 The Ling Bao/Matamba hotels are designed like “mini worlds”: quiet courtyards, green paths, little corners with lanterns—ideal for an evening walk and unhurried photos.

Day 5 — Brühl: Phantasialand, day 1

  • 🎢 Family-day tactic: 1) At opening—popular family rides; 2) At midday—a break in shady areas, indoor interactive zones, lunch; 3) After—shows and whatever you didn’t get to. The themed worlds (Rookburgh, Klugheim, Asia, Africa) deliver a “wow effect” even for little ones: fountains, bridges, trains, and mini photo spots.

Day 6 — Brühl: Phantasialand, day 2

  • 🧭 A “top-up impressions” day: morning entry—short queues; daytime—calm zones and playgrounds; evening—lights, music, and a walk around the hotel. Don’t forget water and breaks every 60–90 minutes.

Day 7 — Brühl: Augustusburg and Falkenlust Palaces + Max Ernst Museum

  • 🏰 A ceremonial palace-and-park ensemble with alleys, fountains, and “fairy-tale” garden geometry—kids like it “like in a movie.” Inside are short exhibits; outside there’s plenty of space to run off. Nearby is the Max Ernst Museum with creative tasks and family programs. If it’s hot/rainy, you can swap part of the day for the warm pool at KarlsBad Brühl.

Day 8 — Transfer to Bonn + Museum Koenig (the animal world)

  • 🚆 Brühl → Bonn: regional train ≈ 10–20 minutes (depending on the timetable).

  • 🦋 Zoologisches Museum Koenig — the “jungle under a roof” effect: dioramas, birds, mammals, insects, and routes at your own pace. Afterward, the lawns of the Hofgarten for free play.

Day 9 — Bonn: Haus der Geschichte + Deutsches Museum Bonn

  • 📚 Haus der Geschichte — modern German history told through clear visual stories; for teens and younger schoolkids it works as a “time travel” experience. Then Deutsches Museum Bonn: science/technology with an emphasis on experiments and AI, a “look and try” format.

Day 10 — Königswinter: Drachenfelsbahn + Schloss Drachenburg + SEA LIFE

  • 🚉 From Bonn—tram/train to Königswinter (≈ 10–30 minutes). The Drachenfelsbahn funicular takes you up without effort—the view of the Rhine is impressive. Drachenburg Castle has a “fairy-tale” facade, terraces, and a park. Finale: SEA LIFE aquarium—an underwater tunnel, rays, and seahorses.

Day 11 — Transfer to Düsseldorf + Rhine promenade

  • 🚆 Bonn → Düsseldorf: direct/with a change via Cologne, plan for 45–70 minutes. Check in, an easy walk along the Rheinuferpromenade, a playground in the Hofgarten — no overload after the journey.

Day 12 — Düsseldorf: Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum + Nordpark

  • 🐠 Aquazoo combines an aquarium, zoology, and a natural history museum: crocodiles, a gift shop with plush fish, themed rooms “like a cartoon.” Then — Nordpark with the Japanese Garden: paths, ponds, shade, photos.

Day 13 — Düsseldorf: Classic Remise or a trip to the Neanderthal Museum

  • 🚗 Classic Remise is a paradise for car lovers: rare cars, workshops, a café, and free entry; kids look at “retro robots on wheels.” Alternative: the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann — human history from Neanderthals to the present day, open-air trails and a “mystery hunt” in the exhibition.

Day 14 — Return to Cologne: KölnTriangle observation deck + flight/departure

  • 🌆 Go up to the KölnTriangle observation deck: a panorama of the cathedral and the old town — a beautiful “goodbye, Rhine!” Time-wise — 40–60 minutes, you’ll make it before the airport. Finale — souvenirs from the Chocolate Museum and the road home with a photo book of adventures.
