Day 1 — Podgorica: first impressions

  • ✈️ Arrival in Podgorica (TGD). Check-in and an easy walk in the center: Independence Square, the Clock Tower (Sahat-kula), the old Ribnica Bridge. In the evening—dinner at a restaurant with local cuisine (Montenegrin pršut, kajmak, Njeguši cheese).

Day 2 — Virpazar and Lake Skadar: lotuses, monasteries, and birds

  • 🚆 Transfer: Podgorica → Virpazar by ŽPCG suburban train: ~30–35 minutes, trains run every 2–3 hours; tickets €1–4/person. Virpazar station is within walking distance of the pier.

  • 🛶 Boat trip on Lake Skadar (3–4 hours): channels near Virpazar, water lilies and lotuses in summer, watching pelicans and herons, visiting island monasteries (e.g., Vranjina or Kom). Best start time is before 10:00 to avoid heat and wind. After the tour—tasting Vranac wine and homemade liqueurs in Virpazar taverns.

Day 3 — Cetinje: the royal capital and museums

  • 🚗 Transfer: Virpazar → Cetinje: ~40–55 minutes by car/taxi (via the Lovćen massif). Public transport alternative—via Podgorica (~2–2.5 hours with a transfer).

  • 🚶 Cetinje is an open-air museum. Must-sees: King Nikola’s Palace on Dvorski trg (authentic interiors of the Petrović dynasty), Njegoš Museum “Billiard” with manuscripts of “The Mountain Wreath,” the Government House building (History Museum and art collections). Atmospheric streets, cafés, boulevards under plane-tree canopies—ideal for a leisurely stroll.

  • 🚗 In the evening, transfer: Cetinje → Kotor via the old switchback road (R-1): 1–1.5 hours with stops at viewpoints—one of the most impressive scenic passes on the Adriatic.

Day 4 — Kotor: the Old Town and St. John’s Fortress

  • 🚶 In the morning, climb up to the San Giovanni Fortress (the old city walls): start at the North Gate or behind St. Tryphon’s Cathedral. ~1.5–2 hours round trip, about 1,300 steps. The views over the Bay of Kotor are postcard-perfect; start early (before 8:00) and bring water.

  • 🐈 During the day—an unhurried loop around the Old Town: St. Tryphon’s Cathedral, quiet courtyards, the Maritime Heritage Museum (in the Grgurina Palace), the small and amusing “Cat Museum.” In the evening—dinner by the city walls; music and bells—pure Kotor magic.

Day 5 — Perast and the island of Gospa od Škrpjela

  • 🚌 Kotor → Perast by local Blue Line bus: 25–35 minutes, tickets ~€2. You can get off on the upper road and walk down to the historic center.

  • ⛵ Shuttle boat to the island of Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks): 10–15 minutes one way; on the island—a church/museum with maritime votive offerings and paintings by Tripo Kokolja. Back—stroll along Perast’s Baroque waterfront and coffee with a view of the islands.

  • 🚌 Return to Kotor for sunset: the light of the mountains reflects in the bay’s water—perfect time for photos.

Day 6 — Lovćen: national park and Njegoš Mausoleum

  • 🚗 Kotor → Lovćen National Park (Ivanova Korita) → Njegoš Mausoleum on Jezerski vrh: a winding road—allow 1–1.5 hours to the park and another ~30 minutes to the parking by the tunnel. From the parking to the mausoleum—461 steps. Tickets: ~€8 (mausoleum) + NP entry (~€3). In clear weather—a panorama of the Bay of Kotor, Lake Skadar, and the mountain “amphitheater.”

  • 🌲 Ivanova Korita is the park hub: walking trails, a rope park, alpine meadows. After that—descend to the sea.

  • 🚗 In the evening, a short transfer and night in Tivat (closer to the next day): Kotor → Tivat ~15–20 minutes.

Day 7 — Tivat: Porto Montenegro and the Naval Heritage museum

  • 🚶 Morning in Porto Montenegro: a waterfront with yachts, cafés, and boutiques. A must—the Naval Heritage Collection: an industrial exhibition of the shipyard and Yugoslav Navy submarines (P-821 “Heroj” and P-912 “Una”) in an outdoor area.

  • 🌅 Sunset at Pine or by the PMYC club pool. In the evening—transfer to Budva (~30–40 minutes) and check-in.

Day 8 — Budva: the Old Town and the Citadel

  • 🚶 Walk through the Old Town: cobbled lanes, St. John’s Church, Budva’s mini-museum (archaeology and ethnography), access to the ramparts and the Citadel (inside—a map library and scenic terraces). Richard’s Head Beach and Mogren are a few minutes’ walk away.

Day 9 — Budva Riviera: Miločer, Pržno, Sveti Stefan

  • 🚌 Budva ↔ Sveti Stefan: local buses run frequently (10–20 minutes during the day), travel time ~12–15 minutes; the road passes through Bečići, Pržno, Miločer. Combine beach time with views of the Sveti Stefan island-hotel from viewpoints.

Day 10 — Bar and Old Bar + Old Olive Tree

  • 🚗 Budva → Old Bar: ~50–60 minutes. Fortress, Byzantine gate, Turkish baths, aqueduct. After that — the “Old Olive Tree” in Mirovica (one of the oldest olive trees in Europe), entry ~€1–2.

  • 🌊 Optionally — swimming at Bar’s city beaches or transfer onward to Ulcinj/Velika Plaža. In the evening — return to Budva (or overnight in Bar/Ulcinj as you prefer).

Day 11 — Ulcinj: Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana Island

  • 🚗 Budva/Bar → Ulcinj: 1–1.5 hours. Velika Plaža — 12 km of light sand and excellent kitesurfing conditions. Ada Bojana — a triangular island at the river mouth with fishermen’s restaurants. A relaxed day of sea/wind/sand.

  • 🚗 In the evening — drive to Podgorica (about 1h 30m from Ulcinj) for an overnight stay — convenient for tomorrow’s day trip to Ostrog.

Day 12 — Ostrog Monastery (day trip from Podgorica)

  • ⛪ Visit to Ostrog Monastery: a shrine carved into a sheer cliff. By car from Podgorica ~1–1.5 hours. Without a car: train to Dabovići station (~45–60 minutes) + a 1.5–2.5 hour hike uphill or a taxi. Modest dress code; it’s better to arrive early.

Day 13 — Žabljak and Black Lake (Durmitor NP)

  • 🚗 Podgorica → Žabljak: 2.5–3 hours (switchbacks and canyon views). Check-in, then the loop trail around Black Lake (Crno jezero) — ~3.5 km through conifer forest at the foot of Međed. An easy acclimatization day at an altitude of 1416 m.

Day 14 — Durmitor: Đurđevića Tara Bridge and canyons → Podgorica

  • 🚗 In the morning — depart for Đurđevića Tara Bridge (30–40 minutes from Žabljak): viewpoints over the 170 m deep canyon, optional zip line. Lunch — home-style food along the highway. After that — return to Podgorica (2.5–3 hours) for an evening flight.
