🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Bonn: the old town center and “first знакомства”

  • 🚶 Arrival and check-in. For a gentle start, walk from Münsterplatz to the narrow Bonngasse—the street where Beethoven was born. From here, wander through historic lanes to the Old Town Hall and Market Square, pop into cafés, and take in the neat Baroque facades. At sunset, head to the Rhine by the Alter Zoll terrace: open water, the relief of the Siebengebirge on the horizon, and calm light—an ideal “tuning” for the city.

Day 2 — The Beethoven House and the musical topography of the city center

  • 🎻 Dedicate the morning to Beethoven-Haus (2–3 hours with media guides): rare manuscripts, instruments, and a very carefully curated exhibition in the authentic house on Bonngasse. After that, a “musical walk”: the Beethoven monument on Münsterplatz, the opera by the Rhine, and bookshops in the old town. Take a lunch break and an hour of “doing nothing” by the water—this helps keep a comfortable pace without overload.

Day 3 — Museum Mile I: Bundeskunsthalle + Kunstmuseum Bonn

  • 🖼️ On the Museum Mile, museums are literally “door to door.” Start with the big exhibition architecture of Bundeskunsthalle—a space for international projects. Next, Kunstmuseum Bonn: German art after 1945 and a strong collection of the Rhenish School. Between the museums it’s a 3–5 minute walk; the Stadtbahn station Heussallee/Museumsmeile is 2–4 minutes away. You can end the day in the museum café with a view of the spacious Museumsplatz.

Day 4 — Museum Mile II: Haus der Geschichte

  • 🇩🇪 Haus der Geschichte is one of the best museums of modern German history: from 1945 to the present through real objects, media, and archival recordings. Plan 2–3 hours; don’t rush—the exhibition really draws you in, and the density of material is high. Afterwards, take a short walk through the government quarter to the former Langer Eugen tower (now part of the UN) and the Rhine promenade.

Day 5 — Museum Mile III: Museum Koenig and Rheinaue Park

  • 🦋 Museum Koenig Bonn is a large natural history museum in a majestic building: rich dioramas and a vivid “geography” of nature. Then a change of scale: head down to Rheinaue Park (10–15 minutes by transit or 25–30 minutes on foot along the Rhine). Japanese garden, meadows, water mirrors—an excellent place for 2–3 hours of outdoor rest.

Day 6 — Deutsches Museum Bonn and a “tech day”

  • 🔧 A separate “stop” on the Museum Mile is Deutsches Museum Bonn (a branch of the famous Munich museum): engineering “icons” of recent decades, with an emphasis on science and AI. Get there by tram/bus to the Hochkreuz/Plittersdorf area (use the stops “Ahrstraße/Deutsches Museum Bonn” as your reference). Afterwards, a calm walk through green neighborhoods and an early dinner.

Day 7 — University Bonn: Arithmeum, Poppelsdorf Palace, and the Botanical Garden

  • 📚 Morning in the elegant glass Arithmeum—a museum of mathematics and mechanical calculators. Then follow the straight axis along Poppelsdorfer Allee to Poppelsdorf Palace and the Botanical Gardens: in season there are 11,000+ plant species and rare collections under glass. This is a “quiet” day that balances the intensity of the Museum Mile.

Day 8 — The “Path of Democracy” and government Bonn

  • 🏛️ Put together the mosaics of Bonn as the capital of West Germany: the marked Weg der Demokratie route leads through key buildings of postwar politics. Stop by the World Conference Center Bonn, and take in the ensembles along Willy-Brandt-Allee and Friedrich-Ebert-Allee. A day about “context”: fewer exhibition halls, more city history on location.

Day 9 — Siebengebirge: Königswinter, Drachenfels, and Schloss Drachenburg

  • ⛰️ Half a day in the natural amphitheater of the Siebengebirge. From Bonn Hbf, take Stadtbahn line 66 to Königswinter (≈ 25–30 min). Ride the cog railway Drachenfelsbahn up to the plateau with panoramic views of the Rhine, and on the way visit the romantic Schloss Drachenburg. Return to Bonn the same way, dinner on the riverfront.

Day 10 — Bonn without plans: markets, cafés, courtyards

  • ☕ Leave the day “empty”: a late breakfast, unhurried Südstadt and Nordstadt blocks, books and vinyl, small parks. If you want water, do a loop along the Rhine from Alter Zoll to the Museum Mile and back. The point is to feel the city “as your own.”

Day 11 — Along the Rhine: a boat ride or a long promenade

  • 🚢 In season, take a short river cruise from Bonn on the Rhine (or replace it with a walking route along the embankments). Panoramas of the government quarter, bridges, the soft light on the water—excellent visual rest between museum days.

Day 12 — Galleries, ceramics, design: small spaces

  • 🖋️ Modern Bonn is a network of small galleries, craft workshops, and design shops. Create your own “thread” around your favorite themes, and add cafés and bakeries. In the evening — an intimate concert or jazz in one of the city’s halls.

Day 13 — Museums Mile again, “your choice”

  • 🔁 Go back to what grabbed you the most: to the Bundeskunsthalle for a new exhibition, to the Kunstmuseum for the collection, or to the Haus der Geschichte to round out topics. In the evening — sunset on the Alter Zoll terrace.

Day 14 — A Beethoven-style finale

  • 🎶 In the morning — one last stop at the music spots (the shop and courtyard of the Beethoven-Haus), then a “lap of respect” around the center: Münsterplatz → the Rhine → your favorite street. Pack without rushing. Bonn is best when you give it time — you’ve already felt that.
