🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY (14 days)

Day 1 — Arrival in Munich → Augsburg: check-in and get to know the city

  • 🚆 From Munich Airport (MUC) it’s convenient to take the S-Bahn (S1/S8) to München Hbf, then an ICE/RE train to Augsburg Hbf. Plan for about 1h 30m–2h total including the transfer. For a family without rushing: check in, an early dinner, a walk along Maximilianstraße to the Town Hall and the Golden Hall (from outside), and ice cream on the square — a gentle adjustment after the trip.

Day 2 — Main star: Augsburger Puppenkiste + the “Die Kiste” museum

  • 🎭 Augsburger Puppenkiste is a legendary puppet theatre in the Heilig-Geist-Spital building (Spitalgasse 15, 86150 Augsburg). Nearby is “die Kiste” — the puppet theatre museum with original sets and screens. Kids enjoy “recognizing” characters from cartoons and TV productions; adults enjoy the craftsmanship of the marionettes. Plan: museum first (1.5–2h), then a walk around the neighborhood and, if possible, an evening performance (book tickets in advance).

Day 3 — Zoo + Botanical Garden: a lively, green day

  • 🦒 Zoologischer Garten Augsburg (Brehmplatz 1, 86161) and the neighboring Botanischer Garten Augsburg (Dr.-Ziegenspeck-Weg 10, 86161) are side by side: come in the morning by bus no. 32 to the terminal “Zoo/Botanischer Garten,” spend 2–3 hours at the zoo (there are shaded areas and a café), then cross into the botanical garden — Japanese garden, rose gardens, themed sections. A kid-friendly formula: 60–90 minutes of activity → a snack-and-water break → another 60 minutes of exploring.

Day 4 — UNESCO water heritage: Wasserwerk am Hochablass + Stadtwald

  • 💧 The historic Wasserwerk am Hochablass (Spickel/Herrenbach district, entrance from Am Eiskanal) is open for self-guided visits and scheduled tours. It’s part of Augsburg’s “Water Management System” (UNESCO): inside are machines, turbines, and a beautiful engine hall. Afterwards — a walk through Stadtwald Augsburg (forest, the Hochablass bridge, views of the canals). On weekends, stop by the Forstmuseum Waldpavillon (Ilsungstraße 15a) — an interactive exhibit about forest and water (seasonal).

Day 5 — tim: Textiles and industry — a museum where everything “moves”

  • 🧵 tim | Staatliches Textil- und Industriemuseum (Provinostraße 46, 86153) is one of the region’s best “interactive” museums: live demonstrations of old looms, fashion and patterns, stories of factories and people. It gives kids attention “hooks” — noise, motion, big mechanisms. Add a family lunch at a neighborhood café and an unhurried hour at a playground — the day will be full, but not tiring.

Day 6 — Naturmuseum + S‑Planetarium: space and dinosaurs under one roof

  • 🪐 Naturmuseum Augsburg (Ludwigstraße 14 / Ecke Grottenau, 86152) offers 1300 m² of geology, biology, fossils, and halls with animals from different biomes. In the same building is the S‑Planetarium with scheduled programs (great for bad weather). Tips: book a planetarium show in advance, bring a light snack and water, and on the way out take a play break in the nearby small park.

Day 7 — Railway park: Bahnpark Augsburg (weekends) + the old center

  • 🚂 Bahnpark Augsburg (Firnhaberstraße, depot complex) features historic locomotives and railway equipment outdoors — like a big “toy” country, but full-size. It’s seasonal (usually May–October, Sundays/holidays) — check the calendar. Afterwards — a family walk: Fuggerei (entrance from Jakoberstraße 26; quarter address — Fuggerei 56, 86152) — the world’s oldest social housing settlement with a mini-museum and a bunker.

Day 8 — FULL DAY: LEGOLAND Deutschland (Günzburg)

  • 🧱 Trip: Augsburg Hbf → Günzburg (RE/RE9 ≈ 30–40 min) + shuttle bus from the train station to LEGOLAND (10–15 min). Park address: LEGOLAND Allee 1, 89312 Günzburg. Strategy with kids: arrive for opening, do the hits in the morning (Miniland, family rides), take calmer areas/mini-building in the middle, finish with favorite repeats. If you buy a ticket to “LEGOLAND Park/LEGOLAND Feriendorf,” the transfer bus may be included (check the conditions).

Day 9 — Easy day in Augsburg: canals, parks, ice cream

  • 🌿 After the rides — slow pace: a walk through Siebentischanlagen and along the canals, swings/sandboxes, a picnic. In the evening — a family café in the center and an early night. If you still have energy — a short visit to Maximilianmuseum (Fuggerplatz 1) to the fountain model room (interesting for school-age kids).

Day 10 — Munich: SEA LIFE + Olympic Park

  • 🐠 Train Augsburg → München Hbf (ICE ≈ 30–40 min, RE ≈ 45–60 min). SEA LIFE München (Willi‑Daume‑Platz 1, 80809) is right in Olympic Park: sharks, seahorses, a tunnel, touch stations for identifying species. Afterwards — playgrounds in the park, boats (seasonal), a view of the Olympic Tower.

Day 11 — Munich: Hellabrunn Zoo

  • 🦧 Tierpark Hellabrunn (Tierparkstraße 30, 81543 München) is a “geo-zoo” by continents, with shady paths, play areas, and picnic spots. Spend 3–4 hours, then return to Augsburg by dinner. Hack: arrive at opening and keep the rhythm “exhibit → break → exhibit” so the kids don’t burn out.

Day 12 — Jumps and ninja courses: Jump Town Trampoline Park

  • 🤸 Jump Town Augsburg (Gubener Straße 4, 86156) — trampolines, trampoline basketball, Double Ninja course. Great for letting off energy indoors. Book time slots online, bring non-slip socks (can be bought on site), plan for 1.5–2 hours of pure jumping time + water.

Day 13 — Interactive: Fugger und Welser Erlebnismuseum + Mozarthaus

  • 🏛️ Fugger und Welser Erlebnismuseum (Äußeres Pfaffengäßchen 23, 86152) — multimedia rooms, interactive tables, and “sea” trade routes of the 16th century: schoolkids take to it like a “quest.” Nearby is the Leopold Mozart Haus (Frauentorstraße 30, 86152) with an intimate stage and an exhibit about the Mozart family: a short musical “stop” without overload.

Day 14 — Allgäu Skyline Park (weather permitting) or a free final day in the city

  • 🎢 Allgäu Skyline Park (Skyline‑Park‑Straße 1, 86871 Rammingen/Bad Wörishofen): train to Rammingen (BY) via Buchloe ≈ 50–70 min + walk ~800 m to the entrance; alternatively car/carsharing. For toddlers — gentle carousels and mini trains; for teens — extreme “propellers.” If it rains — swap for a city day: favorite playground + souvenirs in the center + a family lunch.
